Weekly Treats! Before Watchmen, AvX, Superman

Wuff! That's my busy noise because I'm, like, you know, busy. Nevertheless here's a rundown of the hot hits this week:

"They run...I like it when they run."

Before Watchmen: Nite Owl #2 of 4 is looking like the safe pair of hands title in the series. J. Michael Straczynski is hitting the right notes of nostalgia for the original series and Andy Kubert's art is looking great inked by his father Joe Kubert

It may be little disjointed and sometimes even a little unfocused but Marvel's epic is pretty damn epic and with the bi-weekly schedule it certainly has pace. In Avengers Vs. X-Men #9 of 12 the stakes are rising and Spider-Man finds himself in the spotlight. From Jason Aaron & Adam Kubert.

After revisiting Batman the great Neal Adams hops over to Marvel to turn his attention to the X-Men. Written by Christos Gage First X-Men #1 of 5 is set before Xavier assembled the team. This first issue focuses on Wolverine and Sabertooth. The team behind the excellent Immortal Iron Fist series, Matt Fraction and David Aja re-team for Hawkeye #1 which pairs the archer with ex-Young Avenger Kate Bishop.

No longer simply Action Comics, DC are ensuring this book comes up whatever you put into the search engine with a title like Superman: Action Comics vol. 1 Superman and the Men of Steel. Grant Morrison and Rags Morales reinvention was certainly the most divisive of the 52 but USA Today is the source quote on the cover saying that it includes "the single best issue of Superman these eyes have ever read." House of Mystery vol. 8 Desolation is the final volume in this wonderfully eclectic series. And finally Punisher By Greg Rucka vol. 1 sees the paperback reprint of Rucka and Marco Checchetto's reinvention of Frank Castle that cleverly had him barely featuring in the first two chapters....
